Technical support for Microsoft indicated my current BIOS (i.e. F.31 released 2-3-2009) requires update to a 2022 version to support a Windows 10 upgrade from Vista.  How do I accomplish this?  Are there any other limitations that would preclude such an upgrade?

Hi:

You can't do an in-place upgrade from Vista to W10.

You would have to pay for a W10 license and product key, clean install W10 and your notebook is so old that W10 may not even work right on it.

HP retired support for your notebook since it is more than 10 years old.

Your notebook has the latest BIOS update HP released for it.

If you have a free way to install Windows 7, you can try the free in-place upgrade from W7>W10.

I would not invest any money in a newer operating system for your notebook.
