Upgrade to backlit keyboard

HP 15-f010dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We've had this computer for about 2-3 years...and would like to see if we can upgrade our non-backlit keyboard to a backlit keyboard.

Seeing some options that suggest it may be easy to just swap it out (1 screw and then just plug & play) but not getting a 100% clear answer if our computer is able to support the backlit (will it have the right connections for it).

I'd love to hear some good news...but more importantly, accurate info is my goal.

Current keyboard is fully functional and just fine.  Simply wanting to upgrade to the backlit style.

Pleaes advise...Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to HP Support Forum. It is not that easy. A backlit keyboard DOES have lights and those lights need power to be able to light up.

Therefor keyboard alone won't do anything, you also need to buy a new motherboard which has connectors for you to connect those lights. It would be very expensive to buy a right motherboard for your machine (if available). Please try a cheaper way

Upgrade to backlit keyboard

Am I to assume if the computer didn't have the backlit keyboard to start....that it won't have the connection on the motherboard to power it?

Aka...they would make 2 different motherboards for that model....1 with & a 2nd without the connection for the back light on keyboard...

Is there a picture of the connection I should be looking for so I can confirm it is not there?

Hi,

There is NO option for the whole series of HP 15-f0xx laptops that means no motherboard which supports a backlit keyboard. You can read the last manual on the following link:

Well...that stinks.  But...at least I know the facts and will stop looking for one that will work.

I appreciate the clarity.
