Is there somewhere to check if a relatively old laptop such as mine (no m.2 slot) can be upgraded to use an m.2 SSD or even better m.2 nvme ssd drive by using a 2.5" enclosure adapter?

Hi,

It is possible to use an adapter and then replace your Hard Drive with an M2 SATA 3 SSD such as the M2 Samsung 860 Evo or similar.

Ex:

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-M-2-2-5in-SATA-Adapter/dp/B00ITJ7U20

It is not possible to use an M2 PCIe NVMe SSD.

However, you can replace the Hard Drive with a 2,5" SATA3 SSD such as the 2.5" Samsung 860 Evo which will have the same speed as the M2 SATA 3 drive. So there is really no need for an M2 drive.

Hope it helps,

David
