Hi, @shlimsp
Sorry that you are having issues upgrading to W10.
Unfortunately, I don't have any direct experience with that error.
I have updated no less than a dozen different PC's from W7 to W10 and the upgrades all went without a problem.
So the next thing to do is to google the error code and see if there are some tips that may work for you...

There may be another way to upgrade to W10, but you would need to be able to clean install the operating system the license in your PC's BIOS is good for.
Below is the link to the HP quickspecs...
HP-EliteBook-840-G2-QuickSpecs.pdf (noteboox.de)
If your notebook came from HP with W7 32 bit installed, then there should be either a W10 or W8.1 product key in the BIOS.
Run the free utility that I zipped up and attached below that will show you the Windows product key in the BIOS, and the version of Windows the key is good for.
It should be W10 Pro or W8.1 Pro.
If it is W10 Pro, you can just use the media creation tool to create a bootable installation flash drive that will clean install W10.
You may want to consider making the 64 bit installation media so you can use all 8 GB of memory your notebook came with.
You would need to have access to another Windows PC running W7 64 bit or newer to create the 64 bit installation media.
If it has a W8.1 Pro product key, you would need to make W8.1 installation media and I will help you with that if necessary.
The bottom line is...your notebook should be able to run W10, but you will have to reinstall all of your programs and files if you do a clean install and can't do the inplace upgrade from W7 - W10.

I have managed to upgrade my notebook to window 10. I have uninstalled my antivirus 360.
I have noticed that my initial problem of memory when I used win 7 is still there
When I run the Resource manager, I got this :-
Hardware Reserved 5525 MB
In Use 2158 MB
Modified 13 MB
Standby 270 MB
Free 221 MB
Available 497 MB
Cached 288 MB
Total 2667 MB
Installed 8192 MB
I don't seem to be able use get the 8 gb memory that is installed

The problem is very simple to fix, but you have to go through the work to clean install W10 64 bit.
32 bit operating systems can only address a max of 4 GB of memory, so any memory over 4 GB cannot be used.
Installing a 64 bit operating system would be the only way to overcome that problem, and you cannot upgrade from a 32 bit to a 64 bit OS.
You have to do a clean install, and reinstall all of your programs and files.

I don't intend to reformat my current ssd drive.
Can I install the new win 10 64bit to a new ssd 2.5 (using a usb adapter) attached as external drive ?
Make the external drive bootable.
Test the win 10 64 bit from the external drive.
If it is ok, I can then clone it to the original ssd drive to overwrite the old win 10 32 bit
Will it work? If can, what are the problems that I may encounter.

Hi:
That approach won't work.
You can get another SSD put it in your notebook, clean install W10 on it, and reinstall your programs and files.
If you clone the disk, you will get W10 32 bit back again.
No way around doing a clean install of W10 64 bit, and reinstalling your programs and files.

Let me get it right.
Install a fresh new window 10 64 bit into a new external USB SSD hard disk attached to the notebook.
Change the boot drive to the external ssd disk to test the new win 10 64 bit.
After testing , I then clone the USB SSD hard disk (with the fresh window 10 64 bit) to the old hard disk (with the win 10 32 bit)
I can then change the boot drive to the old hard disk.
This method will not work?
