Hello, I have talked to a technician to upgrade my laptop's ram from 4gb to 8gb. The laptop has two slots. Should I have him remove the 4gb and replace it with 8gb? Or just let it be 12gb. Unfortunately, I don't have enough money to upgrade it to 16gb. And is there someone here who have the same laptop model who did the same thing?

I would not replace only one stick due to potential for mismatched timings. It's always best to replace both RAM modules at the same time with the same model.

Thank you! I really appreciate your response. I do not have much knowledge on things like this.

Since I only bought 1 8gb ram, would it be better to just replace the original?

Yes. Here are some compatible modules from Crucial.  Remember that not all 8GB modules are guaranteed to work.
