I recently decided that I'd like to upgrade my current laptop. I purchased it about 5 or 6 years ago and was curious about adding an m2 hard drive-if that upgrade is possible. If not, what would you suggest for a faster hard drive in this laptop? Also interested in upgrading the RAM. Is there somewhere I can just look up what is and isn't compatible with my laptop? Thanks!

Hi:
Here is the link to the Crucial memory/SSD report for your notebook.
https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/envy-m7-n109dx
It doesn't list any compatible M.2 SSD's.
Below is the link to the service manual.
it indicates that there is a M.2 slot for models with the available for i7 + Nvidia GTX PC models.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04696907
Your notebook has the i7-6500U processor, it doesn't have the Nvidia GTX graphics adapter, but the GeForce® 940M graphics adapter.
If it has a M.2 slot, then you can only install a SATA M.2 drive in it.
So, I guess you will have to open it up and see if there is a M.2 slot present.
