Envy 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Our company owns five (5) Envy-17 laptops and have now reached >900 GB each. We have the following:

  • HP Envy Laptop 17t-ae1xx Product Number: 2RX66AV (three)
  • HP Envy Laptop 17-ae110nr (one)
  • HP ENVY Laptop 17 product number: 19T03AV (one)

All five laptops have 3yr warranty with accident protection.

We want to upgrade all five laptops to dual 2TB SSD SATA, one replacing the original HDD and the 2nd installed in the second HDD drive bay.

We have several questions:
1. Is the main 1 TB drive upgradeable to a 2TB or greater SSD?

2. What is the maximum SSD capacity (TB) allowed in the primary HDD bay?

3. What is the maximum SSD capacity (TB) allowed in the 2nd HDD bay?

4. Can the 2nd HDD bay drive be configured as a mirror RAID drive?
(does the BIOS support RAID or is an upgrade available to support RAID)

5. Is there a drive or other hardware already occupying the 2nd HDD bay?

6. In addition to the SATA drive itself for the 2nd HDD bay, what hardware and/or cabling is needed to install the additional SSD?

7. Can the 17t-aelxx and the 17ae110nr be upgraded to the 32 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM (2 x 16 GB)?
If so, what are the memory specs for the upgrade?

8. Will add the additional SSD void or alter the HP Extended warranty?

Thank you,

Maurice

In terms of confirming compatibility the best recommendation is to use the Crucial Technologies system advisor. Go to crucial.com and run the utility and it will show all compatible hard drives and memory for your system.

Another good resource is to download the maintenance and service guide from support.hp.com

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-17-ae1000-laptop-pc-series/16851067/manuals

Part numbers for the required cables and adapters are in the maintenance guide. The additional drive should not impact your warranty unless you damage the motherboard while performing the upgrades. Follow proper static grounding procedures to ensure that you do not accidently cause a problem.

The only thing that would normally be in the HDD slot would be some sort of harddrive.

The guide states maximum supported memory is 16 Gb. The Crucial site will show actual supported memory as they usually test larger memory installations as well.
