Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
Chapter 5 of the maintenance and service guide indicates that HP wants any work to be done by an authorized service center.
You can probably install the memory yourself without voiding the warranty unless you break something in the process.
Also, if the notebook ever needs warranty service, you must return it to its original factory configuration (remove the upgraded memory you installed and replace it with the original memory HP installed).
This is a peer-to-peer forum. We do not work for or represent HP.
If you want an official confirmation regarding the warranty terms if you open up the notebook, please contact HP customer support at the link below.

Hi!
I'd just like to add that, officially, with an active warranty you're not allowed to "touch" the insides of your laptop, except maybe to remove internal battery if laptop gets stuck during boot (maximum fan, black screen, etc). I've asked HP support in my country about this (Europe). Off the record, I bought a 640 G8 with a 5 year next business day onsite carepack, and I've upgraded everything possible. If I ever have a problem, I'll just take everything out and re-install originals (as Paul correctly advised). So, unofficially, unless you're going to make a public statement (to HP) after upgrading, no worries...
