Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have a HP dv6-6c59ea laptop with 16gb of ram which has a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz processor which is a bit slow now.

Is it possible to upgrade this processor to something more powerful?

I know i cant upgrade the onboard graphics.

Thanks in advance,

Roytheboy1.

You're very welcome.

The i5-2450M processor can be removed and replaced.

See chapter 4 of the service manual for the processor removal and replacement procedure.

It will require an extensive amount of disassembly.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

c03099531.pdf (hp.com)

Chapter 1 has the list of supported processors.

Since your notebook has a dual core processor, you can only upgrade to another Intel dual core processor because the quad core processors use a different system board as shown in chapter 3.

According to the list, the best processor you can upgrade to would be the Intel Core i7-2640M.

Have you upgraded the mechanical hard drive to a 2.5" solid state drive?

If not, I would do that first before upgrading the processor.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply and help.

I will upgrade to a solid state drive as you suggested.

I take it that the processor is not soldered onto the motherboard?

Thanks!
