Omen 15 dc (2018)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have got a question about the warranty of my 2 day old OMEN 15 dc. Would opening the laptop and swapping the hdd for ssd void the warranty? If not, are there any parts (like clips) that i should be careful while opening the case? Thank you for your answer

Here's the Service Manual:

Manual

Your model is one of the ones where opening the rear panel and removing, replacing upgrading memory, hard drive, SSD and WLAN card is described in the "Customer Self-Repair" Section pp. 35-44. This means there can be no doubt it is OK (warranty remains) to remove that cover and add memory, swap in an SSD, whatever. Just be aware HP will not cover damage caused by such a procedure or the upgrade parts you buy and add in.

Your model takes PCIe/NVME M.2 SSD modules and is Optane capable which means if you put a small PCIe/NVME module (16 or 32 gigs) in the M.2 slot it can be activated as "Optane memory" with the Intel Rapid Storage app already installed on your computer. Or, you can install any size NVME M.2 disk and have it be the primary boot drive of the computer which will make it run unbelievably fast.

Post back if you need help deciding on or finding hardware to buy for upgrade or if you have any other questions about the process. Please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

How can you know the compatibility between the Omen 15 dc laptop and many m.2 and rams available at this moment. I ask because i saw a video on youtube where the laptop was not detecting a Samsung evo 970 m.2
