Im looking to upgrade my RAM, I know its DDR4 2133mhz 4gig. 1st question is are there 2 slots on the laptop and also is it best to get 1 8gig stick maybe 2400mhz or just buy an additional 2133mhz 4gig stick, would i notice the difference? Also this is my 1st laptop so unsure of what exact RAM to get so any info would be appreciated.

Hi:

The number of slots depends on what processor your notebook has.

If it has an Intel core processor, then there are two memory slots and each slot can take a max of 8 GB for a total of 16 GB.

If it has a Pentium or Celeron processor, there is only one memory slot, and you would have to replace the 4 GB chip with an 8 GB chip.

Below is the link to the service manual.  Chapter 1 has the memory upgrade info.

I would buy a 8 GB DDR4-2400 memory module.  It will be a lot easier to find than a 2133 MHz memory module and it will automatically bridge to 2133 MHz to match the speed of the processor.

thanks for the response, much appreciated. The CPU is i5 7200u

You're very welcome.

Then you can go with a max of 2 x 8 GB.

I recommend you get an 8 GB crucial DDR4-2400 memory chip...first one listed.

Thanks for you help, one last question I looked at the manual and is 2400 the max I can put in, or can I go up to 2666 or 3200?

HP Recommended

You're very welcome.

No matter what speed memory you install beyond DDR4-2133 MHz, it is all going to run at 2133 MHz.

Since DDR4-2400 is the closest speed memory to 2133 MHz, that is why the DDR4-2400 memory is what I recommended you buy earlier today.

However, if you plan on using the memory in the future in a notebook that can support faster speed DDR4 memory, you may as well go with the DDR4-3200 memory.

Okay so if I have this right the laptop only supports speed up to 2133, even if I took the RAM I have at the moment and put all new ones in. As I say 1st laptop I've ever owned so sorry for all the questions.

That's correct.

Your notebook's processor can only run the memory at a max speed of 2133 MHz.
