Upgrading RAM from 16 to 32GB on an HP ENVY 17-cg1003ca

Hi,

I would like to upgrade to 32GB RAM on my HP ENVY 17-cg1003ca laptop. I saw from another post that my option are as follows:

Now, I tried the second option (ct2k16g4sfra32a) but my laptop would not boot with these 3200MHz DDR4's. Any idea why ? I did not order the first option yet ... I wanted to check if there have been tested memory modules that can be a sure thing to try with particular laptop model.

That's interesting, because according to Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com), the Crucial RAM you bought (p/n: ct2k16g4sfra32a) should be compatible as per Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | hp - compaq | envy 17 | ENVY 17-cg1003ca | Crucial.com:

And HP's HP ENVY 17-cg1003ca specs:

RAM memory that for sure is compatible (motherboard HP 8823) based on UserBenchmark: HP ENVY Laptop 17-cg1xxx Compatible Components are: Samsung M471A1K43DB1-CWE and Crucial CT16G4SFRA32A.M16FRS.

I can't find Samsung M471A1K43DB1-CWE 2x16GB anywhere ? Can you please help me find where I can order these as the Crucial didn't work for me.

Here you go, the single 16GB Samsung RAM stick (p/n: M471A2K43DB1-CWE), can be purchased relatively inexpensive here (you need two of them, of course): https://www.amazon.com/3200MHz-PC4-25600-260-Pin-SODIMM-M471A2K43DB1-CWE/dp/B08DL8FKS8.  ("Tips" says, quote: "You found a deal! The price is currently on the lower end compared to other stores we checked.")

In the off-chance this RAM doesn't work either (that would surprise me given my previous experiences with thought-out Samsung RAM for HP computers), one of the advantages of ordering through Amazon anyway, is that you can return it and get your money back.

As NS said, the Crucial ram you bought is what we all here recommend. The Ballistix ram has tighter timings than our laptops can use, since there are no memory settings we can change.  So they won't work. You may have gotten a bad module of the pair you bought. If you choose to try, install them one at a time to see if one is bad.

Vanilla ram from Crucial, Samsung and SK Hynix have all proven to work well with HP laptops.

Darn, the Ballistic RAM was listed as an ok module to try so I ordered them. I'll try them when I get them ... but like you said, they won't work. So my last alternative is: M471A2K43DB1-CWE.  I will most likely order those ...
