I want to add an extra RAM to my laptop. It already has a 4GB configuration but I am planning to add 8GB more. Can I add RAM modules of two different sizes but same frequency and form factor? If No, then Why and what is recommended?

Hi:

You can install up to 2 x 8 GB of memory in your notebook.

Yes, you can do what you want to do (add an 8 GB to the 4GB), but here is why you don't want to leave it that way.

Right now your PC's memory is running in the lower performing single data rate mode.  If you install an 8 GB memory module, it will still only run in SDR mode.

But if you install 2 x 8 GB or 2 x 4 GB, the memory will run in the better performing Dual Data Rate (DDR) mode.
