HP Notebook T0D84UA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been researching about upgrading my RAM, but i cant seem to find the maximum memory allowed for my system. I found that there are two slots and one has a 4 GB DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM module. I want to know if i can put in x2 8 GB modules for a total of 16 gb, or can i put in another 4 GB module for a total of 8 GB. Ive done hours of research to find the maximum memory allowed and the type of memory, but cant seem to find anything. Once i find out how much memory and what kind I plan on having them put in by a professional. The model number is 15-ac151dx.

Hello @GrantS14

HP "Officially" states that laptop will only hold 8 gigs of memory via one of 2 ways according to the manual...

8192-MB total system memory (8192×1) or (4096×2)

and it has this model ram stick already installed...

Part Number   691740-005

4GB, 1600MHz, PC3L-12800, DDR3

http://partsurfer.hp.com/ShowPhoto.aspx?partnumber=691740-005

The manual gives you this information and shows how to install it on page 46.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04653884

The bottom cover has to be removed to access it. If you're not experienced with doing this, then yes you are better off having a pro help you.

With that said...

HP can sometimes be conservative with specs and they only tested it to use this configuration.

But "technically", the CPU and chipset can also handle up to 16 GB of ram... (8192×2).

A good guide to go by is using the Crucial Memory Upgrade Finder which offers a 16GB kit specifically for your model...

I have never had a user complain of getting wrong advice from the Crucial memory configurator.

Bottom line, you will have to choose which way to go. The for-sure thing or what is technically logical.

I only make the info available but I trust Crucial.

Hope it helps.

That was extremely helpful. Thank you for the reply. I'm just gonna go with the 4GB stick because its cheaper and i wont have to worry about it not working.
