Microsoft Windows 11

I want to know what RAM upgrade options I have.

I see comments on Best Buy Reviews saying 64GB is compatible with this laptop- HP Envy 16-h1023dx, need confirmation on this.

Currently, it has DDR 5 -2X8GB 5200 MHz =16GB RAM.

Not sure how much MHz can I go up to and if just replacing one slot with a 5200MHz 32GB is recommended or not?

Thanks!

You're very welcome.

Looks like anything faster than 5200 MHz is overkill and will automatically bridge to 5200 MHz.

Intel Core i913900H Processor 24M Cache up to 5.40 GHz Product Specifications

If the 5200 MHz memory kit costs less than the 5600 MHz kit, I would buy the 5200 MHz kit.

Not sure why HP does what they do as far as providing service manuals, but you see a lot of that.

There are notebooks out there with Intel 11th and 12 gen core processors and the manual they provide is for notebooks from previous model series with the 8th gens.

The only value of having the manual is that it helps with taking the notebook apart.

It does not help all that much with memory capacities, memory speed, supported Wi-Fi adapters, etc.

HP only has the service manual for the older 16-h0xxx model series available.

HP ENVY 16 inch Laptop PC 16-h1000 - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support

According to chapter 1 of that manual, the notebook supports 2 x 16 GB of memory.

The Crucial memory report indicates it will support 2 x 32 GB of memory.

HP - Compaq ENVY 16-h1000 | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com

You can also run this command to see how much memory Windows indicates your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. After the command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

The memory will perform best if you install it in matching capacities (2 x 8 GB, 2 x 16 GB, 2 x 32 GB) so it runs in dual channel mode.

That is why your notebook came configured with 2 x 8 GB of memory and not 1 x 16 GB.

Otherwise, one memory chip and an empty slot, or mismatched memory capacities in both slots will run in single channel mode.

Awesome thanks a ton! That clears a lit of confusion for me!

I wonder why HP doesn't have the product manual for the exact model i.e. HP Envy Laptop 16-h1023dx

Anyways, should i go for- 5600MHz or 5200MHz

Crucial 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR5-5600 SODIMM

Vs

Crucial 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR5-5200 SODIMM

Not sure if 5600MHz would actually be supported or it will just work at 5200MHz?

Thanks again!

Hi, I have exact model that you have, was you able to successfully update your laptop with 64G? If yes, can you write what exact memory you are using?

BZW by executing "wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx" on Windows 11 it shows only 16G, which is currently installed
