HP Envy x360 2 in 1 (15M-CP0012DX)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hello everyone, looking to get some information on upgrading my RAM on my Envy x360 2 in 1 notebook. I have the Ryzen 7 model, with 8gb of ram that it came with.

On my model, I have an empty slot as the 8gb only uses one slot. I am looking to upgrade to 16gb, but not sure if the Crucial RAM I found on Amazon is compatible. Also, I am not sure if I should get dual ranked or single ranked for my laptop.

I looked at HP’s RAM upgrade guide, and it says

“Some motherboards are not able to configure memory modules with different manufacturers, or different CAS or density values. To ensure your memory is compatible, make sure all SODIMMs have the same part number.”

Not sure what this means at all. If you know whether I should get Crucial single ranked or dual ranked memory, and if It is compatible with the 8gb my laptop already has, please let me know!

Thank you!

Your computer: HP ENVY x360 - 15m-cp0012dx Product Specifications

lists: one 8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB)

I would access www.Crucial.com to let it find compatible RAM.

Hi,

Your PC supports max 16GB of DDR4 2400 Mhz RAM. (2x8GB)

The 2666Mhz RAM will work, howeverat 2400Mhz speed. You can use single or dual rank memory without any problem. So both the RAMs you linked will work. I would go with the second link the 2400Mhz RAM.

On page 30 of service manual you can see the steps to upgrade RAM:

Hope it helps,

Thank you mdklassen and iomare, that definitely helped. If you know the answers to these questions also let me know!

What would be the difference if I put single ranked or dual ranked?

What is the ram in my laptop, single or dual?

Since the ram in the laptop already is not crucial ram, will it make a different if I get Samsung ram instead of crucial?
(The ram in the laptop is highly likely Samsung ram)

Hi,

It should not make a difference. You can check the RAM in your system by looking at the sticker on it before you purchase the new RAM. If it starts with 8GB 1Rx8............   it is single ranked, If it starts with 8GB 2Rx8,,,,,,,,,,,it is dual ranked.

You can choose your preferred brand.

That www.crucial.com web-site will recommend Crucial-brand RAM that is compatible with the existing RAM.

To get a performance benefit from "dual-channel" mode of operation of the RAM, match the speed of the existing stick, if the web-site does not explicitly select RAM with that specification.

Thank you both for the help. Gonna buy the ram along with a new 500gb nvme drive.
