I want to expand my laptop's RAM (4 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB))
Will a 1 x 16 GB RAM work? If yes, what brands do you recommend? If not, what RAM size/combinations would work?

You have the i5 7th gen processor so yours has 2 slots. Here is the Manual:
Maximum single module officially is 8 gigs so you could add an 8 gig and have 12 gigs or toss the 4 gig module and install a pair of 8 gig modules to have 16 gigs. I might suggest you would get a lot of benefit and very cost effective performance improvement by adding a single 4 gig additional module to have 8 gigs total. 8 gigs is where the vast majority of computer users need to be at this time i.e the "sweet spot".
If you compile Code, edit video or do other demanding computer work and not just email, facebook and youtube your laptop can (privately) actually take 2 x 16 gig modules for 32 gigs but this is based on feedback and not official HP blessing. I am about 95% sure it will work but obviously I am not going to buy it back from you at today's very high memory prices if you buy it and it does not work. I also sense you are in India or Pakistan as that is where this model seems to be sold and memory there is even higher in price and the newest type is sometimes not readily available.
Memory type is :
DDR4-2400 For use in models with 6th and 7th generation Intel Core processors
● 8-GB 862398-855
● 4 GB 862397-855
DDR4-2400 is the latest laptop memory form factor. As suspected most of the product I see on eBay India comes from the U.S.:
This 8 gig module would work and is priced at just a little more than it would be in the US:
4 gig module:
Pages 47-55 show how to install memory.
