My computer having 4gb of ram..I wanted to upgrade it by adding 8 gb of ram.. but i have heard some concepts that the 2 ram slots should be same? what is the problem if i add 8 gb ram instead of 4 gb ram ?? Please explain it properly.

That is true, in theory to be able to get FULL benefit of dual channels, we need to slots have SAME RAM spces, even SAME vendor. But that is theory, you can mix and the slow down is un noticeable.

Machine will run at 12GB (4GB + 8GB); again, you won't be able to see that. One thing I can say: 12GB (4GB+8GB) is better than 8GB (4GB+4GB).

Hi,
There is actually no problem and you can add 8GB. If you use two of the exact same modules it will run in dual-channel mode which is slightly faster than single channel. Personally, I would upgrade with 8GB and then in the future if you want to upgrade again you can replace the 4GB module with an 8GB module.
