I want to upgrade from the rather small 128GB SSD, I went to Crucial.com and ran their compatibility check. It's hard to drill down to my model number, because "convertible" is a choice, but not "m3". So my selection ends up "Compaq HP Pavilion x360 Convertible (Intel 5th/6th Gen)". Crucial tells me an MX500 series (2.5" SATA) is compatible. Not having opened up the laptop, I checked "Disk Management" and by Googling the Sandisk part number, discovered I have a M.2 SSD! I want to get the Crucial M.2 part (which is available), but had already ordered the MX500. So if someone can tell me what's the correct M.2 SSD from Crucial, I guess I'll order the M.2 and return the MX500. Thanks in advance1

I'm happy to be conversing with the local hero, I appreciate the work you've done for the church 😉
That said, the link I sent should have helped you get the complete model or product number of your device, if it hasn't I suggest you go through the video in it, just one more time, while you do that I suggest you check the service and upgrade guide:
here's the generic link since I'm not sure exactly which model you have: Click here
(look under Page. 42 - Chapter 5 - Removal and replacement procedures for authorized service provider parts)
I hope that answers your query,

Thanks for the response. Since then I have been contacted by Crucial, also a response to this item on Amazon from the manufacturer (Micron?). Everything points to this: although the 2.5" SATA drive still has an empty bay, there's no cable, since I have the M.2 2280 SSD. I'm going with the M.2 upgrade (500GB), looks like by far the easier upgrade. The manual still seems to show the 2.5" SATA drive, which was confusing, because I did find a Youtube video for this model, upgrading the SSD and RAM. This video clearly shows M.2 SSD.
I came by the UserID name honestly, you might say. I volunteered as IT man for our local church for a number of years, and they presented me with a shirt with that title embroidered on it! A lot simpler then, moved their system from DOS 3.2 to Windows 3.1, built several computers to handle the upgrades, all networking was via ethernet. This little laptop of mine is such a marvel of miniturization in comparison, and it is my first experience with the M.2 SSD!
