OMEN by HP 15-dc1093tx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello HP Community,

I have an HP OMEN 15-dc1093tx, (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz) 2019 model and I’m looking to upgrade the current 256 GB SSD to a 1 TB SSD. I need some guidance on the following:

  1. Compatibility: Which type of SSD (NVME M.2 gen 3 / gen4) is supported by this particular model? I want to ensure that the new SSD I will purchase will be fully compatible with my laptop.

  2. Will it support the latest Gen4 SSD's (crucial p5 plus / WD black sn770 ),  currently available in the market?
  3. Best Options: Could you recommend some of the best SSD choices for this upgrade? I’m looking for a reliable, high-performance SSD that fits well with this model.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Hi:

Your notebook's M.2 slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.

A PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD will work, but it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3 slot.

This table shows the maximum transfer speeds each PCIe slot generation can provide:

The drives you mentioned would work fine, but as I wrote above, will not run at their maximum advertised read/write speeds.

If you plan on moving the drive to a newer model PC in the future that has a PCIe Gen 4.0 slot, spend the extra money and buy the WD Black SN770 or a Samsung 990 Pro.

If you don't plan on moving the drive to a newer notebook in the future, I recommend the Crucial P3 which is the PCIe 3.0 model.
