Compaq Presario CQ61

Hi All

 

I have a very old Compaq presario CQ61 which has an Intel T3400 pentium dual core CPU installed

 

I was wondering if i can upgrade this oldie to a Intel Core 2 duo and if possible which cpu would you guys recommend

You do not specify the exact model you have but on that model series there were two different motherboards: one for Core 2 Duos and one for the "defeatured" Celeron and Pentium models. People have reported success with putting C2D CPUs on the defeatured motherboard but advanced features like speedstepping may not work right and thermal management is dicey. 

 

So do you have some way to tell the exact model you have there and we can figure out whether the support documentation is still available.

Thanks for your reply...  my apologies for the lack of info

 

the model number is CQ61-105EE

this lappy uses DDR2 800Mhz RAM cards and i beleive can accept upto 8Gb.  Anyways the service manual is very confusing as it does mention both 1066MHz FSb and 800MHz FSB

Would it be possible to install an Intel T9600/P8700 or if not what would you recommend
