I would like to upgrade the memory in my laptop for some quicker speeds when playing games. I have read the manuals online and cannot seem to find the answer to the maximum amount of ram I can have in my laptop. When I went to Best Buy, I was told different numbers by two people. Neither of them could find the information in writing but "knew" the number, so I decided to contact HP. I looked online and websites that sell memory state 32, but I cannot find anything in the manuals that specifically state a number.

Hi:
HP only has the service manual for the older 15m-ed0xxx model series.
The manual is contradictory for two reasons:
Chapter 1 indicates the memory is onboard and is not upgradable and the notebooks come configured with 16 GB, 12 GB or 8 GB of memory.
However, if that were the case, chapter 3 would list motherboards coming with different memory configurations and I see no memory specs listed for the motherboards, just processors and graphics.
Chapter 5 has a procedure to remove and replace the memory.
The Crucial memory report usually lists compatible memory for sale, and they don't have any for your notebook.

So, I'm afraid that you are going to have to open the notebook up and see for yourself if it is possible to upgrade the memory.
For starters, run this report and see if it provides any info:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Thank you for your help. I contacted HP and their customer service refused to understand my confusion as well. They did offer me to pay for their addition diagnostic services which is not what I wanted. I had previously only seen the instructions for replacing memory as well, so I was under the assumption that it could be upgraded. I finally did find the mention of the memory being unupgradable after posting my question, which is firmly what the HP rep stood by but they could not explain the differences in the manuals.
I am afraid to open the device as I have no idea what I am looking for right now. But, I did run the report you suggested. the number that came up is 134217728. So the math would come out to 128. That seems really high? Sorry if I am not understanding what the number was supposed to stand for. Google wasn't much help. I would like to upgrade to 32gb so I only have to do this one time, if possible.
