I’m looking to upgrade my G6 3168 NGW CPU and wondering does anyone know what CPUs are compatible with mine?
im not in IT or tech savvy but want to try upgrade parts rather than buy new. I’ve purchased:
2 x Crucial 4GB 8 GB 16GB DDR4 2400 2666 3200 MHz SO-DIMM 1.2V 260-Pin Laptop Memory
1 x Crucial MX500 2TB 2.5" SATA III Internal SSD (CT2000MX500SSD1)
1 x Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210 AX210NGW 802.11AX AC Wi-Fi 6 AX200 M.2 Wifi Card Bluetooth.
If all else fails and I break something then I’ll buy.
any help would be greatly appreciated

You're very welcome.
You can't do anything to upgrade your notebook's hardware to meet Microsoft's minimum W11 hardware requirements, but there is an easy workaround to install W11 as is on your notebook without spending a dime:
Watch this video:
How to install Windows 11 24H2 on Unsupported PC (Early Access)
Download the W24H2 ISO file and use that (3rd option).
Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)
You can download the free 7-Zip file utility from the link below. The top line is for 64 bit.
You'll have to repeat this procedure each October when Microsoft rolls out the new builds because a PC that does not meet Microsoft's minimum W11 hardware requirements will never automatically get the update to the next build.
Other than that, your PC will continue to get the monthly cumulative and other updates.
That's only a minor inconvenience to have continued OS support beyond October of 2025.

Your notebook can only support a maximum of 2 x 8 GB of DDR4 memory if it has an Intel core processor.
The Crucial MX500 SSD should work fine.
It may be possible that the Intel AX210 will work in your PC but in order to increase your chances for success, you must buy this HP part number/Intel SPS number:
Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 AX + Bluetooth 5.2 M.2 2230 non-vPro HP part # / SPS # M27269-005
Below is the link to the service manual:

I don't know where you get 3168 NGW from, it is the wifi adapter, not the machine.
1. RAM: From manual, it Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM you can use Crucial 2400MHz (gridge to 2133MHz).
2. STORAGE: Crucial MX500 is ok, you can use 2TB or even 4TB.
3. Wifi adapter: It has Intel 3168 now. It only has 1 antenna therefore Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210 AX won't work properky
Regards.

Notebooks that come with the Intel 3168 Wi-Fi adapter all have two antenna wires as the second antenna wire is required for the Bluetooth to work on all Intel Wi-Fi cards other than the 9461 AC CNVi card.

When I search the name of that part it comes up as some kind of adapter? Am I right? Looks very similar to the WiFi card I purchased, are they installed together?
apologies for my ignorance as IT isn’t my area this is more of a side project.
also the antenna situation, will my laptop accept this WiFi card?

The Intel AX210 will fit where the Intel 3168AC Wi-Fi card is now and the antenna wires will go in the same place.
What I don't know (and nobody else will know) is if that model Wi-Fi adapter will work in your notebook.
It should, but there isn't an ironclad guarantee that it will.
Folks don't usually upgrade Wi-Fi cards when they already are dual band and removing and replacing the thin and delicate antenna wires is not easy.

Ah, I see. I’m following you now. I’ll chance the equipment I’ve bought and if I get no joy on the WiFi card I’ll buy the one you’ve mentioned above.
This is all purely for a small project for myself. I do need the laptop but before I spent a lot of money I wanted to give this a go.
My laptop can’t upgrade to windows 11, it says the processor doesn’t support it. Is that something that can be upgraded DIY? If so would you have handy recommendations?
I appreciate all the help
