Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to send my laptop to a certified HP service provider who can upgrade the memory on my laptop from 8Gb to 12Gb by replacing a 4Gb module with and 8Gb.  I would attempt this myself however I still have 30 months warranty remaining so I'd rather not void that should anything go wrong. Does HP provide a service like this?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Opening the laptop for upgrade will not void the warranty but any damage you do will not be covered and the new parts are not covered. If you wanted HP to do it you would take it to a Service Center. I am in the USA not UK but I understand there are several such centers in the UK:

It would not be covered by the warranty and HP would charge for the service. They also would insist on installing their own memory module which will be marked up from retail price quite a bit. Your warranty allows opening the laptop to upgrade memory or storage. We have videos and manuals and can offer help if you need it. I would also recommend if you are going to open it up, do it once and upgrade to 16 gigs (2 x 😎 and maybe consider a solid state drive if you do not already have one. You can do that with the money you will save by doing the labor yourself.

I thought that opening that openeing the machine at all would void warranty on the device. Is this not the case then? Because I would be happy to upgrade it myself. Though how would I get HP to do this if I wanted to?
