Hey,

So. I'm currently trying to sort my laptop out so I can some run some music production software a lot more smoothly than I'm currently able to at the moment. What seems to be the main setback is the processor.

My Laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC - Product number: A8K05EA#ABU

The processor currently running is AMD A6-3430MX APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.70GHz.

Is there any scope to be able to upgrade the processor to say an Intel i7?

I am 100% a computer novice when it comes to upgrades and technical jargon etc, so please go lightly on the response, haha.

Kind regards, and thank you in advance.

Neil

Frankly a laptop processor upgrade is not a novice thing to try to do. It's not too expensive on an older machine with obsolete hardware if you can do it yourself but a competent tech is going to charge you at least a couple hundred pounds. In your case, you will have to stick with an AMD A series Ax-3xx as that is the only type of CPU which will plug into the processor socket on the motherboard. A8-3530MX is the best processor that is compatible with your motherboard. This would bump the system from 2.3gh clock speed to 2.6ghz and I doubt that would make any significant difference in your ability to use your music production software. If we know what software you were trying to run we could look up its recommended (not minimum) specs and give you a bit better advice. Generally with any kind of serious content creation you want a strong processor and as much memory as you can get and also a fast SSD. I might suggest looking at a refurbished mobile workstation type system.  You could have that i7 processor and 16 gigs of RAM that you really need. Post back with any more questions.
