I have an HP 17t-cn000 with a 1TB HDD and I want to upgrade it to a 1TB SSD. I'm mostly having trouble finding an SSD that would be compatible with my laptop that I would be able to switch the HDD out with. I also appreciate some help as to how to actually go about switching my current HDD with the SSD.

Service Manual:

Manual

Pages 32-40 show how to get the back cover off. Skip the parts about memory, etc. and go to p. 40 for a picture of the hard drive in place. A 2.5 inch SATA SSD will be a drop in straight swap for the hard drive using the same mounting and connecting hardware.

This will work fine:

You have a slot for an M.2 "gumstick" type SSD which can be installed in addition to the hard drive and you can use an NVME disk which is many times faster than even the pretty fast SATA 2.5 inch SSD. Post back if you want to explore that option or have any more questions about this post.

Thank you, I'll probably just get the SATA SSD for now. Though I do want to know how I can transfer all of my data from my current HDD to my new SSD. It would be much appreciated if you can help me with that as well.

Several ways to do it. The easiest involves using an external usb to SATA adapter and then cloning software. I use Macrium Reflect Free. You can make a bootable thumb drive which runs the cloning app without booting the hard drive. You then attach the clean new SSD to the adapter, boot from the Macrium thumb drive and use the cloning app. Clone internal HDD to external SSD. When done, remove HDD from machine replace with SSD. Boots up to your familiar desktop and apps and data but much faster.
