HP ENVY dv7-7358ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I would like to upgrade my single band centrino N 2230 network card for a dual band Intel 7260. I would like to log into my home 5g network. However I've been hearing about HP whitelisting their BIOS. Would this card work in my Laptop?

@Sandy_Bay

That is true and your machine was built around 2012 therefore the chance to use newer card in very slim to none. Option

Your laptop is believed to be clear of the whitelist just based on User reports. HP has never officially published a list. However, the advice routinely given here is that the DV7-7000 Intel series has no whitelist and you can install any wifi adapter of the right form factor. Maybe we can get a confirmation from @Paul_Tikkanen .Good luck.

Hi, @Sandy_Bay

This model card with the HP part number is guaranteed to work in your model...

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

The card is readily available on eBay or Amazon, and it doesn't cost very much at all.

Do your search by the HP part number, not by the model number of the wireless card.

Thanks for the replys! I have several laptops lying around so just for giggles I decided to try various mini pci cards out. Although these were all single band, my ENVY was able to pick them all up after a restart. So I'm thinking that my PC may not have a whitelisted BIOS? Anyway Paul_Tikkanen I'm going to pick up the HP ( HP Part # 710661-001) one your suggested and give her a try. I'll post my progress here as it may be of some use to someone else.

You're very welcome.

Yes, if all those other cards worked, you will be fine.   No whitelist.

However the 7260 is the best AC card available for models with Intel processors that use the HMC form factor cards.

Broadcom quit driver support in 2016 for their wifi cards, and you will find the Intel 7260 still has driver support going into the first part of this year.

As a matter of fact, you can just plug and play the 7260.  W10 will install the drivers for it, but you can also use the latest W10 driver from Intel...it will install an older version than Sept of 2018, but it will probably be newer than what W10 installs.
