Hi
im am trying to upgrade a laptop I was given, it is currently running windows xp which doesn’t really work, I want to put windows 8.1 on it, but the spec isn’t good enough, I am upgrading the ram for the laptop but the other thing I need is to upgrade the graphics drivers to directx 9 with
- Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver.
can anyone help me with how to do this?
There is currently no os on the laptop that works,so do I need to reinstall xp, download the upgraded drvers, add the extra ram and then try to install windows8.1? Any help would be much appreciated

Without any Operating System installed on your Notebook, you will not be able to download or install any drivers or softwares
First you need to ensure the Notebook meets the Hardware requirements for Windows 8.1. Link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/12660/windows-8-system-requirements
Since this is a very old Notebook which doesn't have the UEFI BIOS, you might not be able to use Windows 8.1 on this Model
