Hello,
Recently I have been getting a warning message on startup, that my hard drive will fail imminently (I believe it is warning about my SSD), and after running diagnostics, the tests confirmed that my hard drive is at 90%+ wear, therefore I should replace it. I bought it in the summer of 2016.
I would like to make some upgrades to my device, as I am not planning on buying another laptop as this one is still extremely fast, except when running games with high requirements. I have looked at the maintenance and service guide here http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05357609.pdf , but I am not very tech savvy and need some help/recommendations on what to upgrade.
For example, I would not mind completely replacing the current SSD and HDD in my laptop for a larger SSD if it is possible for this product.
I was also thinking about the possibility of upgrading the RAM (if possible), as over the last 4 years, I have sometimes felt the limitations of only 8gb.
Finally, I wanted to ask if anyone out there has had experience upgrading laptops, and your recommendations for how to get the most out of it in the long term. For example, what are the best things to upgrade? Is upgrading the fan/battery important/possible?
Apologies for the loaded post, I highly appreciate any advice you may have.

Hi Phill,
Yes you can upgrade the machine. Replacing the Hard Drive and M2 SATA3 SSD with a M2 PCIe NVMe SSD will give a great boost in the everyday performance of the machine.
You can choose from your preferred brand and capacity
Example
https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-omen-15-ax202na#ssd
You can reinstall the OS by using media you can create directly from Microsoft.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
You can upgrade to 16GB of DDR4 2133MHz RAM (2x8GB). At the moment you have 2x4GB
Example
https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-omen-15-ax202na#memory
The upgrades will give a boost to a machine which is powerful
Hope it helps,
David

Hi David,
Thanks for your response, it's helped me understand more about what I need for my laptop. I think I will certainly be going with this RAM: (I switched to the UK version of the website) https://uk.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k8g4sfs824a/ct12330746
I've done some extra research, as I was thinking about maybe replacing not just the 120gb SSD, but also the 1tb HDD with SSD as well. If you don't mind, could you tell me whether you think the following SSDs would be compatible together in my laptop?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-MX500-CT1000MX500SSD1-NAND-Internal/dp/B077SF8KMG?th=1 in place of the HDD, for storing games and other files.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-MZ-V7S250BW-Solid-State-Drive/dp/B07MHXYL6T in place of the current SSD, for OS and other microsoft products.
Thanks again, I really appreciate the input.
