Hello forum,

I would just just like to ask about upgrading my laptop.

I would like to upgrade the ram from 8gb to 16gb. I am already aware this is possible and just wanted some advice on which brand and MHz stick would be suitable.

Also, and this is where I am very unsure, I was wondering whether I could replace the installed 2.5” 1tb HDD with an equivalent sized ssd. And if this is possible are there any limitations on branding and ssd storage size. I know that I can upgrade the already included NVMe stick, but I would really prefer to replace the hdd. I don’t really want to go through the hassle of moving windows when I just want my games to load faster and the included 120gb stick is more than enough for the os and word documents.

Thank you you all very much in advance.

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

Start on p. 32 to remove the rear cover. Inside you see this:

RAM slots green HDD yellowRAM slots green HDD yellow

Specs say your laptop currently has 2 x 4 gig modules of DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM. So to have 16 gb you need to discard those and install 2 x 8 gig DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM:

8 GB 2400 MHz 1.2v DDR4 shared
862398-855

You can actually install 2 x 16 = 32 if you wish and want to spend that much money but for most folks 16 gb is plenty.  The site I linked above offers 16gb or 32 gb kits and will work fine. No sense in trying to install "performance" or "gaming" memory as the system will clock it to run just like this standard memory.

As far as the SSD yes you can simply pull the hard drive and replace it with a 2.5 inch SATA SSD such as the Samsung Evo 860 or WD Blue. See pp. 39 and 40 for instructions.
