Pavilion 14-ce0505sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I have a Pavilion 14-ce0505sa  with a 256GB PCIe NMVe SSD storage. I would like to add a 2.5" drive but according to the service manual, all dual configurations support adding an HDD alongside the PCIe one but there's no mention of support for 2.5" SATA SSD. So my question is, is it possible to install a SATA SSD in the HDD slot?

Many thanks,

Saeed

Hi,

Yes, you can add a 2.5" SSD such as the Samsung 860 Evo. However, you will need the hard drive cable part number L19172-001 and bracket part number L19469-001 (page 46 of service manual)

These part are very difficult to find, not available in HP parts store or official reseller in the UK.

What you could do is upgrade the 256GB M2 PCIe NVMe drive to a much larger capacity drive such as a 1TB Samsun 970 Evo or similar (or even larger capacity).

Hope it helps,

David

Thank you very much for your reply!

The service manual does not state any compatibility beyond 512 GB M2 PCIe storage. Will a 1 TB one still work?

Thanks,

Saeed

Your welcome.

The service manual only mentions the possible options what the computer can be bought with in that series. There is no limit to the capacity of the M2 drive, so you could also use a 2TB drive.

David

Great! Thank you very much!

While you mentioned it, would you please tell me what's the advantages of the Evo970 over the previous generation? I've just learned about it from you.

My apologies for asking too many questions, this is my first time dealing with M2 PCIe storage.

Best wishes,

Saeed

Your welcome Saeed.

The Samsung 970 Evo is considered the best price/performance M2 PCIe NVMe SSD on the market, only surpassed by the 970 Pro which is more expensive.
