Hi, I’m wanting to upgrade the SSD and I’ve purchased a one terabyte SSD thing I thought that my laptop had a hard drive but it was running off at 250 GB SSD. I think I took that out and replaced it but obviously that’s got all my data and the operating system on it, my data is all backed up to the cloud. How do I move forward from here?

As I am sure you have seen, the only storage option on your laptop is an M.2 SSD. You need to get an operating system onto the new SSD. You can do a clean new install of Windows 11 by downloading and creating a usb bootable thumb drive from the Microsoft Media Creation Tool site. Just google that. Your license is in the BIOS chip so you need no Key Code it will just authenticate. You can get drivers here from this site. You could also clone the old SSD to the new but you need hardware (an M.2 to USB adapter enclosure) and some kind of cloning software to do that. You can also just reinstall Windows from the Microsoft download, get the adapter thing and move specific data (not apps) over from the old SSD by plugging it in externally.

Thank you and yes that’s what I’ve done. I’ve just put a fresh install windows. However, when is the main reasons that I wanted to upgrade was because of the fan noise I thought originally I must have a hard drive because of the fan but it’s still going on annoyingly loud. Is there anything I can do?

Update BIOS to the latest (you likely already have but if not it has a very small chance of helping). Try taking a can of compressed air with a straw and blow it in the fan vent. Hold the fan blades with a bent-out paperclip. If you do that and it is still loud it may need replaced.
