Example: Pavilion dv7
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi, My name is Al and I need any and all advanced help replacing the original HD to an SSD in my laptop HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx, [personal information removed]. I bought the laptop new (2012) from BestBuy here in Auburn, California but did not register it after purchase. I misplaced or lost the manual. Once again I am seeking any advance help I can get. I am not in any sense of the word a techie but am familiar with the BIOS screen and most of the Windows settings.

I’ve had the bottom cover off and removed the HD several times just for familiarization and several years back did upgrade the RAM to 8GB. Currently it’s running the original Win7 but intend to load Win10 from disk.

My main concern is just by installing the new SSD HD will the laptop boot up from the Win10 disk. How best to go about with this upgrade and what additional equipment or software do I need? Thank you...

Al Fonseca

After installing the new drive boot up and enter BIOS to be sure it is recognized-just a precaution to save time if something is amiss later.

Insert the Windows 10 dvd/usb and power on.(If using a flash drive  use a usb 2.0 port) Immediately start tapping the esc key to open a startup menu where you will see F9 Boot options as a choice. Tap the F9 key, use arrow key to move to select/highlight your bootable CD/DVD or USB then tap Enter key and follow the directions.

Btw- you may not be happy with Windows 10. Not sure all of the hardware will be fully functional-such as display or audio so hang onto to that original hdd since you may want Windows 7 back.
