Upgrading to a SSD and M.2.

I have just upgraded my 4GB RAM to 16GB and I am now looking to upgrade my HDD to an SSD with an additional M.2 drive. I have a HP 15-bs162sa laptop. I am looking at a 'Crucial' MX500 1 or 2TB looking for advice on a suitable M.2 drive and drive size? Thanks in anticipation.

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that your notebook supports SATA M.2 SSD's, not NVMe.

HP offered SATA M.2 SSD's up to 512 GB In the model series, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't install a larger capacity SSD if you wanted.

A recommended M.2 SATA SSD would be one of the Western Digital Blue SA510 models in a storage capacity that meets your needs.

Hi Paul, I noted a reply you made to someone regarding a different model. Yes I noted the WD drive and hoped to match the 1TB variant with a 2TB Crucial MX500 SSD. Hopefully my 15-bs162 can cope. Thanks for the advice already given.

Crucial no longer makes M.2 SATA SSD's.

The only make 2.5" SSD's such as the MX500 or the lesser performing and less expensive BX500.

So, you can use one of those to replace the 2.5" drive but not for the M.2 SATA SSD slot.
