Hi, I have a pavilion dv6-20177ca with a 500gb sata hard drive. I want to put in a 1tb sata hard drive to replace the 500gb one. I can't find any information confirming it should work. My guess is, it will work, but i wanted to be sure before buying a 200$ hard drive.
Can someone help me with this?
Thanks

Are there any other considerations to make when replacing/upgrading the hard disk? For instance heat? If you change to a disk with higher speed and/or size, then it probably also produce more heating, that will affect the overall temperature in your notebook?
Im thinking of replacing mine with an identical, but if there's no worries about heating, then I will go for a bigger and faster disk.
Grateful for any comments on this.
Best regards
Lennart

As I said the old hard drive is in a metal sled. There are 4 screws, one at each corner of the drive. Remove them, remove the bare drive from the sled
I am trying to replace a hard drive on a C700 series laptop. It's also a SATA drive.
Is there some sort of trick to unscrewing the screws on the drive caddy? I had no problem getting off two of them, along the side that would face the inner part of the laptop after the caddy is inserted. But I couldn't do anything to budge the other two screws, the ones on the side that would face the edge of the laptop.
I have no problem with all of the other steps involved. The new drive connects with no hitches, but I can't install it until I can pry the old drive out of the caddy and put the new one in there.
On the side where I can't budge the screws, they are screwed into little "flaps." On the other side, where the screws came out easily, the metal is one solid piece. Below is a photo that shows my problem. I would really appreciate any pointers or suggestions on how to get out the two stubborn screws.

I am using 17" Laptop DV9502AU. It comes with 160 GB 5400rpm SATA HDD.
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01184519
2nd bay is empty now. I need bigger HDD. Can I go for bigger one like 320 GB or 500 GB on 2nd Bay. What about 7200 RPM?
Will 320/500 @7200 RPM support it?

OK Guys need serious advice here, I am getting so much conflicting information about upgrading the hard drives.
Did find the link month ago for the live hp chat but now unable to find it to get more info about why my new hard drive is not compatible with my laptop.
My laptop is HP Pavilion dv6700, Model: dv6907ea.
My old hard drive has failed due to loads of CRC errors and did an Hitachi DFT software on it and reported many errors but not enough to warrant and return code. So went to this webiste called drivemylaptop.co.uk and it has advised the Samsung HM641JI is compactible with my laptop.
Now the service manual via HP live chat they sent me says it not. Tried various route to get hold of an HP tech via both phone AND online to no avail!
So question is this, is it compatible? if it is not then why? COs I need to get this sorted quickly so I can return the hard drive back asap!
Cheers, PJ.
