Hello, I own a HP notebook 15s-fq1000nl, and i need some clarification about compatibility with external GPU (eGPU) solutions.
Specifically, I would like to knowç
- If my model officialy supports the use of an external GPU trough the M.2 NVMe slot or any available Thunderbolt port.
- Wheter a BIOS update or specific drivers are required to ensure proper functionality of an eGPU adapter.
- If there are any known limitations for mu model when using external dedicated graphics card.

My goal is to use an AMD RX 5600 XT as an eGPU to improve the graphical performance of the laptop.
Best regards.

Hi @antoivigavigans,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding External GPU Compatibility for HP Notebook 15s-fq1000nl!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Using an external GPU (eGPU) solution can significantly enhance your laptop's graphics performance. However, compatibility and support depend on various factors, including the availability of specific ports and system configurations. Here is some relevant information for your HP Notebook 15s-fq1000nl:

Thunderbolt Port Support:

  • The HP Notebook 15s-fq1000nl does not officially support a Thunderbolt port, which is commonly used for eGPU connections. Typically, eGPUs require Thunderbolt 3 or 4 connectivity due to bandwidth requirements.

M.2 NVMe Slot:

  • While some eGPU solutions use the M.2 slot, this approach is not standard, and using it for eGPUs might require modifications and could void warranties. It's generally recommended to use Thunderbolt connectivity for eGPU setups.

BIOS and Driver Requirements:

  • If you manage to find an eGPU solution that might work (e.g., one using USB or similar), it is essential to ensure your BIOS and drivers are updated. Consult HP’s support page for the latest firmware updates: HP Support.

Limitations and Considerations:

  • Without Thunderbolt support, you may face bandwidth limitations which affect performance significantly.
  • Check compatibility with the eGPU manufacturer for specific setup requirements and recommendations.

I hope this helps.
