I have an older hp active stylus pen which uses a battery. I previously used it without problems on a hp spectre x360. On my present hp spectre the pen registeres in that the cursor shows, it will move scroller. But nothing else. No luck with finding different pen driver. Will not select anything, no single or double tapping. I think my computer supports Microsoft MPP protocol. Any suggestions?

HI @DB200,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your older HP Active Stylus pen is not fully functioning on your current HP Spectre x360, here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check Battery Status
- Ensure the battery in the pen is new and correctly installed. Sometimes a low battery can cause functionality issues.
2. Compatibility Check
- Confirm that your HP Spectre x360 model is compatible with the specific HP Active Stylus you’re using. Not all HP pens are compatible with all devices.
3. Windows Ink Settings
- Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
- Make sure the settings for using the pen, including “Show visual effects” and “Use pen to touch input,” are enabled.
4. Update Windows
- Ensure your operating system is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
5. Install or Update Drivers
- Check the Device Manager:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices and look for your pen. Right-click and select Update driver.
- Alternatively, check for updates on the HP support website for any specific drivers related to your stylus.
6. Disable and Re-enable Pen Support
- In the Device Manager, you might also try disabling the HID-compliant pen device, then re-enabling it after a few seconds.
7. Calibrate the Pen
- Some devices allow for pen calibration. Check in the Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink to see if there's an option to calibrate your pen.
8. Test with Another App
- Try using the pen in different applications (like Microsoft OneNote, Paint, or a drawing app) to see if the issue is app-specific.
9. Use Windows Ink Workspace
- If your device supports it, access the Windows Ink Workspace by clicking the pen icon in the taskbar and try using the pen there.
10. Try a Different Pen
- If possible, test with another HP Active Pen that is known to work with your device. This can help determine if the issue is with the pen or the device itself.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
