Hi, i am using this laptop for gaming and i really want to now if is okey to let the games use 100% of the GPU or it can last on overheating and damage of hardware. I use dual boot between linux and windows so the question goes for the two systems

@Joseph1557

It's NEVER a good idea to max out the CPU for extended periods, regardless of why you are doing it.

Excessive heat will shorten the life of the CPU and can cause thermal crashes, which can then damage the CPU and prevent the PC from working.

We can't comment on the Linux usage because HP does not support Linux use on a PC that came with Windows.

Okey, any way to reduce heat while gaming? That consume is only on high end games like shadow of the tomb raider that on the lowest preset use 90% of the dedicated gpu

Yes, it is quite typical for games would use 100% of your GPU. Dont ask me how @WAWood confused the GPU for the CPU in this case. But as far as games are concerned, it is quite normal. If it doesn't besides bottlenecking and some limitiations for older titles, then there would have been an underlying problem. The usage does not matter, what does it how well your laptop dissipates the heat, which gaming laptops usually do a good job in due to the placements of their fans relative to the components and typically rotate at a higher speed. Software in most cases including games, with the rare exception of some viruses, are not able to affect your hardware. Gaming laptops, in particular, are designed for playing games. Don't worry about it. As for the comment about the compatibility of Linux, usually the components used in HP laptops will have drivers that have been preinstalled in the kernel or in the case of nvidia drivers, can easily be added through a graphical interface or the terminal.

My Setup:
HP Notebook: HP 14-dk0028wm
Current Operating System: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

The drivers of the gpu are installed in both systems... i will stay alert about heat over usage... to keep my laptop coold. Thanks
