I had a swollen battery and removed it immediately. The HP battery for my laptop is no longer available. I would have to buy a non OEM battery of inferior quality which will probably not last long anyway. Can I operate my laptop without the battery? Any risk in testing it? Any settings that might need to be modified?

Hi:
It should be OK to run the notebook without the battery but since your notebook doesn't have a CMOS/RTC battery according to the service manual, every time you shut down and turn on the notebook, you will get a CMOS 502 checksum error which you will have to clear, and have to set the time and date settings.
