I purchased the HP OMEN 15-dc1052nr at my local Micro Center, Sunday 12/15/19. I am very pleased with this laptop, and I don't want to take it back. However the high cpu temps just aren't acceptable. When benchmarking the processor with Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool, Core Temp reports several cores hitting 100 degrees C. Even the Omen Command center shows 97 degrees C under 100% load.
Now I've tried Intel XTU, Throttle Stop. Changing the max power in power setting from 100 deg C to 99. Even went digging around in the BIOS to find the cpu wattage setting, which I could not find. I have the latest BIOS F.12, and everything is updated as far as I know.
The more reading I do on this issue, from the HP message boards to reddit, and various reviews on YouTube' I think the problem is not a voltage issue but a hyperthreading issue. See, any overclocker will tell you that to get higher overclocks with less heat generation you should turn off hyperthreading. Now I know we are not overclocking, that's not the issue, however being able to turn off hyperthreading in the BIOS is.
I think that a BIOS update with the ability to turn off hyperthreading should be put forth from HP. I hope they read this post and consider it. 6 logical is more than enough for almost all software and for all games. If you need it however you could go into the BIOS and change it.

@Dave747 Welcome to HP Community!
Click here for steps to resolve overheating issues, you could try reducing the resolution on the in-game settings and switch the windows settings to performance rather than visual effects to make a minor change, however, the game may heat up your PC, hence make sure you are using a cooling pad as well, to be on a safer side.
Here's how you change windows settings:
- Go to Start Menu > click on Settings.
- Type performance > choose to Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.
- In the new window, go to the Visual Effects and select Adjust for best performance.
- click Apply and Ok...this should do the trick.
I must let you know that its normal for a gaming PC to heat up, and with an Intel CPU such as the one you have, there's nothing to worry about, for details on why you don't need to worry: Click here to go through the CPU specifications, look under Tjunction of the CPU, it supports up to 100°C.

Thank you very much on you're quick response. Although I agree with what you wrote technically, I don't believe in downgrading video performance or undervolting the processor. I am also uncomfortable running the processor at or near TJ Max. After more research, I have opted to change the thermal paste and pads. I still think that turning off hyperthreading in the bios would be very helpful in lowering processor temps by 5 to 10°C.

@Dave747 I'm afraid HP has locked a few settings on your computer which are being managed by the system configuration as the device is configured to its optimal performance.
There's no way of resetting or changing these locked settings via HP articles or assistance,
You could unlock and make changes at your own discretion using 3rd party tools, however, HP doesn't recommend the same nor has information about the tools used.
I hope you understand.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. However I don't think that we are on the same page. I understand that things like voltages, multipliers, and even temps in the bios can be controlled through optimization software. Hyperthreading however is not. It's a switch, it's either on or off in the bios only. The only way to change that is by editing the bios it's self, which I will not attempt to do. I was really hoping that you, somehow could in whatever way, initiate an updated bios release that would now allow to switch on or off hyperthreading.

Dave747 I hate being the bearer of bad news specially during the holidays and end up looking like the Grinch, but there's just no way of unlocking bios as such, and I would gladly put in a request for an update, however, there's no saying when it would be released and even if the release would contain such an option.
I hope you understand.
