On June 11, 2026, at 9:00 PM, my device suddenly shut down and wouldn't turn back on. It's a motherboard problem and cannot be repaired since the warranty expired just three weeks ago. I'm writing this to express my dissatisfaction with HP's Victus line, specifically the Victus 15. I bought it a little over a year ago for my aeronautical engineering studies, as I need to use Solidworks, CAD programs, and AnsysWorkbench to graduate and gain experience with these software programs, which are widely used in my field. I also occasionally use the computer for gaming because, as a student, I can use a computer supposedly designed to handle AAA gaming sessions in my free time. That's what this company claims to sell you, but it's either an isolated case of very bad luck or a mediocre product, since I always took very good care of this computer, monitoring the CPU and GPU temperatures when playing games or running demanding simulations that this computer should be able to handle. It was perfectly capable of handling the load, but for some strange reason, the motherboard couldn't handle it and caused a short circuit. Repairing this type of damage easily costs over 5,000 pesos, and considering the money I already invested in the computer, it's ridiculous that I have to deal with this and that it failed just three weeks after the warranty expired. I don't understand why this happened, because it's not a user error. I took proper care of it, I didn't tamper with anything I shouldn't have, and I didn't perform any extremely demanding tasks that this machine couldn't handle. While I understand that the warranty has expired, I find it unacceptable that a supposedly gaming computer would fail after only 12-14 months of use. I've been reading about the same motherboard failure in different countries, as seen in photos on Reddit, YouTube, and even on this very site. This suggests that my case is not unique and is not isolated. I am writing this because I want HP to address my case. I am an Aeronautical Engineering student who relies on a powerful computer for my studies. I request a free repair, as the warranty expired only three weeks ago. Something must be done because being without a computer in the middle of my degree, when I absolutely need it, is not an option. I eagerly await a response and assistance from someone at HP qualified to help me, because this situation is simply unacceptable.

Hi @florem

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your HP Victus 15 suddenly shut down and no longer powers on. Before concluding that the motherboard has failed, I would request that you perform the following troubleshooting steps to confirm the issue and gather information that will be helpful to isolate the issue.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter (charger) from the laptop.
  2. Disconnect all external devices such as USB drives, external monitors, mouse, etc.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect only the AC adapter.
  5. Press the Power button once to check if the laptop powers on.

Check for Power Indicators

  • Observe whether the power LED, charging LED, keyboard backlight, or fan activity is present.
  • Note any blinking LED patterns, as these can indicate specific hardware failures.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn the laptop on and repeatedly press Esc.
  • From the Startup Menu, press F2 to launch HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run the System Tests (Fast Test followed by Extensive Test).
  • Record any Failure ID displayed.

Attempt BIOS Recovery

  • Turn the laptop off.
  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button while continuing to hold Windows + B for another 5 seconds.
  • Check whether the HP BIOS Recovery screen appears.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I already did that several times, I checked with a thermal camera, when I plug on the battery, a part of the motherboard reaches 120°C, there is no power to the computer, it won't turn on, not even the charging LED, it is a motherboard issue, it is not a battery problem, so please look forward to my case instead of dismissing it with that poor solutions.

Hi @florem

Thank you for responding.

I regret to hear that the troubleshooting steps provided did not resolve the issue and understand how concerning this situation must be, especially considering your reliance on the laptop for your aeronautical engineering studies. Since the hard reset, HP Hardware Diagnostics, and BIOS recovery procedures were unsuccessful, and the device no longer powers on, this may indicate an underlying hardware issue that requires further evaluation by an authorized HP service center. I would request you to contact the nearest service center for assistance, if the device is out of warranty, it may incur charges: https://support.hp.com/in-en/help/service-center

Have a good day.
