Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb0000 (598V0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I had bought this Victus 15-fb0051AX(R5 5600h, RTX 3050 Ti) 6 months ago and noticed something weird from the beginning. Though it was not as severe at first, I noticed that the cpu is reaching temperatures of 95 C even in games like gta 5 (Monitored in MSI afterburner). The GPU was fine though, at less than 75 C. I think the reason was the CPU being at boost clock speed 4.2 ghz as when I disabled turbo boost, the cpu temp went down to 75C (Base clock 3.3 ghz). So I decided to keep it this way as I didn't notice much issues while gaming.

After using for a few months, dust had built up and temps were getting higher, especially the cpu, who now goes above 80c occasionally (at 3.3 ghz; if I allowed it to boost it would reach 100C). GPU never went above 80C. So I visited the same HP World store I had bought this from and asked them If they would clean it and change the thermal paste. They cleaned it for me and said they also changed the thermal paste. When I tested it back home, it seemed there was no change with the cpu temps but now the gpu is also reaching 84C (Nvidia limit).

Could they have messed up the thermal paste? Also when I watched the HP self repair video for this particular model, there seemed to be two types of thermal grease inside(Normal one for cpu and gpu, thick one for vrms; just mentioning it hoping that it would be helpful).

What will I do next?

BTW I use the laptop with a stand, elevating it from a flat surface.

Hi @Nafiz2

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is overheating.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I would like to inform you that 90C is normal on the gaming computer. I recommend you use the Omen command center to change the settings which suit your needs.

I feel that the laptop temps have gotten worse since I bought it, and the recent cleaning and thermal paste change by the hp world staff didn't change anything. I am forced to reduce the performance of the laptop by reducing the core clock of the CPU and undervolt the GPU in order to avoid thermal throttling. I am considering visiting an HP Care service centre to perhaps fix the issue. I wish there was a way to atleast get the temps that I used to get at the beginning.
