Hi @Koitus,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your Victus by HP 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop is experiencing overheating issues, which can be concerning, especially when the CPU reaches temperatures as high as 101°C. Here are some steps you can take to address the heating and fan noise issues.
- Clean the Air Vents: Dust accumulation can block airflow, causing overheating. Use compressed air to carefully blow out any dust from the air vents. Make sure the laptop is powered off and unplugged before doing this.
- Check the Fan: The rattling sound from the fan might indicate it’s not functioning properly. Ensure that nothing is obstructing the fan blades. If the fan appears damaged or continues to make noise, it may need to be replaced.
- Use a Cooling Pad: Consider using a laptop cooling pad to help improve airflow and reduce temperatures while gaming.
- Update BIOS and Drivers: Make sure your laptop’s BIOS and all drivers (especially the graphics and chipset drivers) are up to date. HP often releases updates that can improve system performance and thermal management.
- Adjust Power Settings: Go to the Windows Power Options and adjust the plan to a more balanced setting rather than high performance. You can also set the CPU to a lower maximum performance state to reduce heat generation.
- Monitor CPU Usage: Use Task Manager or third-party software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check what’s causing high CPU usage. Sometimes background applications can contribute to overheating.
- Check Thermal Paste: If you're comfortable with it, consider reapplying thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. Over time, thermal paste can degrade, leading to poorer heat dissipation.
- Limit Background Applications: Close unnecessary programs running in the background while gaming to reduce CPU load.
- Game Settings: Lower the graphics settings in your games to reduce the workload on the CPU and GPU, which can help keep temperatures down.
Overheating can potentially damage internal components, so it's essential to address these issues promptly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
