My Victus 16 keyboard letters have stopped working.  I've connected an external keyboard and the letters will not work on it either. The external keyboard works fine on a different computer. I am unable to log in to access any settings.

Hi @Dogsnake,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your keyboard!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Try Safe Mode:

  • Restart your laptop and immediately start pressing the F8 key until you get to the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Select "Safe Mode" using the arrow keys and press Enter.
  • Check if the keyboard works in Safe Mode. If it does, the problem might be related to recently installed software or drivers.

Check for Keyboard Functionality in BIOS:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F10 or ESC during startup).
  • In the BIOS menu, check if the keyboard responds. This can help determine if the issue is with Windows or hardware.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If you have access to restore points, perform a System Restore to a point when the keyboard was working.
  • Use a Windows installation media to boot and select "Repair your computer," then choose "System Restore."

On-Screen Keyboard:

  • Use the on-screen keyboard to log in.
  • At the login screen, click on the "Ease of Access" icon (bottom-right corner) and select "On-Screen Keyboard."
  • Once logged in, use it to navigate and troubleshoot.

Check for Malware:

  • If you're able to log in using Safe Mode or other methods, run an antivirus scan to ensure malware isn't causing the issue.

Windows Recovery:

  • If none of the above options work, consider using Windows Recovery Environment to reset your PC. Note that this may result in data loss, so it should be used as a last resort.

I hope this helps.

The suggestions wouldn't work due the function keys not working. I got it working using the forget password option and reset the password to the number/special function keys. They were the only thing  working. Once I reset the password and got logged in everything started working.

Hi @Dogsnake,

Thank you for the update!

I'm glad to hear you were able to log in successfully by using the "Forgot Password" option and resetting it with the special function keys. It's great that everything started working normally once you logged in.

If you need help with anything else, feel free to reach out!

Best Regards,
