My HP victus (Ryzen 7 7840HS and RTX 4060) starts to overheat when I am gaming and charging at the same time.
For instance - I am playing The Last of Us - Part II Remastered on battery and temperatures do not go over 60°C or 140F, as soon as I plug in the charger CPU temp goes to 90C or 194F...
Laptop is brand new, used for a month and it is the same since day one, so cooling is clean. I tried different power plan settings (using balanced power plan, even lowering min and max CPU state and every other power plan option I could find to match "while it's on battery") and it is the same...
Any suggestions ?

Hi @LukasPecas,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Performance and Thermal Management:
OMEN Gaming Hub: Utilize the OMEN Gaming Hub to monitor CPU and GPU temperatures and adjust performance settings. You can switch to 'Comfort Mode' to lower CPU and GPU temperatures for casual tasks or use 'Performance Mode' for optimized gaming performance. Adjusting these modes can aid in balancing performance with thermal management.
Ensure Proper Airflow:
- Placement: Place your laptop on a hard surface to ensure proper airflow. Avoid using it on soft surfaces like beds or carpets that may block ventilation.
- Surroundings: Do not place the laptop too close to walls or objects that can obstruct the fan's air outlet.
- Elevate the Laptop: Use a docking station or a laptop stand to provide more airflow underneath the device.
Adjust Fan Settings:
Fan Speed: Increase the fan speed in the OMEN Gaming Hub or system BIOS settings to enhance cooling during intensive gaming sessions.
Max Fan Mode: Enable 'Max Fan Mode' if available in your system settings to maximize the cooling solution.
Battery and Power Settings:
- Power Saver: Use a power saver mode to reduce the system's power consumption, potentially lowering temperatures while plugged in.
- Periodical Checks: Perform regular battery checks using the HP Support Assistant to ensure optimal battery management.
Environment:
- Ambient Temperature: Ensure the room is well-ventilated and not excessively warm as this can contribute to the laptop's internal temperatures.
I hope this helps.
