HP Notebook - 15ay516tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello there,

**NEED ADVICE**

Laptop Model - HP Notebook - 15ay516tx (i5 6th gen 6200U)

Motherboard Model - HP 81EC (61.41)

Existing RAM -  Samsung DDR4 2400 mhz 4GB

Hard drive - 1TB 5400 rpm SATA

Want to upgrade the laptop with RAM and SSD . But can't figure out some doubts.

* For RAM upgrading:

1- Can I add a 8gb RAM to the second slot?

2- will there be any problem with 1slot 4 gb and another of 8gb?

3- Should I have to upgrade with a 4gb of same brand(Samsung) or any brand can be fine?

4- or Can I remove the existing RAM (I mean is it removable???) and replace it with a new 8gb RAM of any brand??

* For SSD Upgradation:

1- Does the laptop has a M.2 SSD Slot (or any extra SSD Slot?)

2- what type of SSD should I buy? ?To what range? ( I mean what gb?)

Any comment will be appreciated. Reply fast please.

Hi:

Unless your notebook came with a M.2 SSD from the factory, there is no M.2 slot.

So if you want to upgrade to a SSD you will have to remove the 2.5" mechanical hard drive and replace it with a 2.5" SSD.

Memory...you can add an 8 GB DDR4-2400 memory chip in the empty slot and have 12 GB of memory running in single channel mode.

In order for the memory to run in the higher performing dual channel mode, you have to install matching capacities of memory in each slot (2 x 4 GB, 2 x 8 GB).

I would recommend buying Crucial memory since they guarantee compatibilty.

You should be able to get the 8 GB memory chip in India...
