I'm looking to install a 1TB SSD in this laptop but haven't found any diagrams or instructions on opening the case. My previous laptop had convenient access to memory/hard drive without removal of the entire back. I need to verify the SSD m.2 type and size. From what I've been able to gather it needs a m.2 2280NVMe drive but need to confirm before ordering. Is there a good diagram/instructions on back removal and SSD type?
I have build many desktop systems but laptop work is limited but very possible w/instructions.

Hi:
Your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports SATA SSDs only, not NVMe. See chapter 1 of the service manual.
Below is the link to the service manual. Chapter 6 has the disassembly procedure.

Thanks for the quick response. Interestingly after installing the SSD it did not show up in Disk Management but then this is a Windows 11 machine now and I see no evidence of its presence. I took it back out and into the portable enclosure it had been in and is fine showing up on my desktop system when plugged in via a USB cable from the adapter. I didn't look into the laptop bias and maybe should have but under "normal" circumstances when a drive is installed Disk Management allows you to name and format the drive for use. In this case it didn't show up at all.
Any ideas?

It just dawned on me I’m not sure what version interface the Intel 1TB 660P NVMe M.2 Internal SSD uses. What I get on the website is “it utilizes the PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 interface” but I’ll have to see if that is supported by the Intel i5 Gen 8 processor. My guess is this is a version 3 which I was told was supported by the i5 Gen 8 chip when checking with Samsung on using their 970 or 980 drive but that was also thinking it was a NVMe drive slot.....

You're very welcome.
The drive doesn't work because it is NVMe and not SATA.
This is the best performing SATA M.2 SSD that I know of for the price...
There is nothing you can do to get a NVMe SSD to work.

Paul.
Doing some additional research which I should have done 1st tells me that the slot on the MB is a NVMe slot. There is a 57 pin slot on the left, a spacer, and then 5 slot on the right. This drive does fit in the slot properly. Maybe not going into the BIOS setup before booting was an issue? Unfortunately I don't see a way to attach an image to show the slot.
The SATA slots I've seen show a slot with 6 pins, a spacer, then a wider slot for the rest of the pins even though the right side isn't pins all across as the right side has a few empty pin slots. Short answer is I can see a SATA card fitting in a NVMe slot where a NVMe card wouldn't in a SATA because of the left side slot spacer. Hope that makes sense.

Paul,
This video explains what I am seeing. My slot is the one on the right. Look at the video starting at 4:37 to see what I'm referring to,
Thanks again for your time to explain.

Hi:
Every M.2 slot in a HP notebook or Desktop PC 'looks' like it will support a NVMe SSD.
That is why you have to read the service manual.
Some slots support SATA SSD's only, some support NVMe SSD's only, and some support both.
The 17-bsxxx model series' M.2 slot only supports SATA M.2 SSDs.
