I purchased an HP Envy x360 laptop from Best Buy in February 2025. My SSD drive died approximately one month after my 1 year warranty expiration (of course it did). I paid out of pocket to get a new drive, and then went on the manufacturer's website (Seagate) to check the warranty on the SSD. Turns out, this drive was manufactured in 2017 and is way out of warranty. I want to know WHY would HP use a drive that old in a new laptop? I can't even go through Seagate to recoup the money I spent on a new drive.

You could try HP agent directly and ask. Open this link- https://support.hp.com/us-en/ then select your region from the bottom and choose contact hp agent directly. Depending on your region it may or may not be harder to contact. Look for online chat or call. (Don't purchase anything of shown there)

An SSD could stay on the shelf for years; thus, the information provided by Seagate about the date might not be the date of manufacture of the SSD but rather that of the NAND, controller, firmware, or components of the SSD.

OEMs may sometimes use older batches, but having your SSD fail just after the 1 year of the warranty period is unfortunate. Since the drive has been replaced, there’s not much more to do technically. Good luck with the new SSD.

That’s definitely frustrating, especially with the failure happening so soon after the warranty ended. I’d first verify the exact SSD model and serial number, because the manufacturing date alone doesn’t necessarily prove when HP installed it or whether it was refurbished stock. HP does use refurbished components in some programs, but those products are normally identified and tested separately.
If this was sold as a brand-new Envy, I’d contact HP and Best Buy with the SSD details and purchase receipt and ask them to explain the component history. It may also be worth checking whether any extended retailer coverage applies.
