I bought a HP Laptop in November and it says the warranty expired in April!  It is supposed to have a one year warranty.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. Even though I've now submitted a dispute claim and twice sent a copy of the invoice, HP simply ignore the claim. It's clearly a good way of their avoiding liability if anything goes wrong with my laptop in the next few months.
