If I have the screen on my HP laptop replaced by an independent repair shop, will that invalidate the warranty?

@LG2030,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

In most cases, having a laptop screen replaced by an independent repair shop does not automatically void the entire HP warranty.

However, if the repair process causes damage to the notebook or if a subsequent problem can be traced to the replacement screen, cabling, hinges, wireless antennas, or other components that were serviced, HP may deny warranty coverage for those specific items.

For example:

  • If the replacement display develops image quality issues due to the third-party panel, HP would generally not cover that display under warranty.
  • If the repair shop damages the display cable, hinges, webcam, or wireless antenna connections during the repair, HP may decline warranty service for those repair-related issues.
  • Unrelated warranty issues (such as a motherboard, SSD, battery, keyboard, or charging problem) would typically remain eligible for warranty coverage, provided they were not affected by the repair.

Before proceeding, I recommend checking your warranty status and reviewing the warranty terms applicable to your model. If your notebook is still under warranty and the screen failure itself may be covered, contacting HP Support first is usually the safest option.

Could you provide the exact HP model number and whether the screen is already damaged or you're considering a preventive replacement? That information may help determine whether HP warranty service is available.

Kind Regards,
